Loveland Classical School

Summary:

Loveland Classical School is a public charter school in Loveland, Colorado that serves grades K-12 and has a student population of 989. The school is part of the Thompson School District R-2j, which is ranked 46 out of 116 districts in Colorado and has a 3-star rating.

Loveland Classical School consistently outperforms the Thompson School District and the state of Colorado in various standardized test scores, with 52.2% of 5th graders proficient or better in CMAS/Science compared to 37.3% for the district and 37.9% for the state. The school also has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 19.11% to 25.18% in recent years, which is lower than the state average. Additionally, Loveland Classical School has a higher student-teacher ratio (18.7 to 19.1) compared to the state average, indicating a potentially more personalized learning environment for students.

When comparing Loveland Classical School to other nearby charter schools, such as Twin Peaks Charter Academy and Liberty Common Charter School, it becomes evident that these schools also demonstrate strong academic performance, with proficiency rates often exceeding those of Loveland Classical School. This suggests a high level of academic excellence among the charter school options in the region. However, the demographic differences between Loveland Classical School and the surrounding district raise questions about equity and accessibility, and it would be important to further investigate the school's enrollment and admissions processes to ensure they are inclusive and provide equal opportunities for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Horrible board governance and tepid commitment to classical education. Only a shell of what it tried to be prior to 2014. Close Quote

Open Quote WILL NOT recommend this school to anyone that wants their child to get an education. Poor classroom management, student/teacher ratio too high, administration inexperienced, no oversight on standardizing curriculum. There is no requirement for the instructors to have their teaching license. Devastating to my student to be behind in key subjects such as English and Math after transitioning them to another school. Open Quote Three years ago, this school was something different and special. Today, it's a disaster. The principal gives an excuse for everything, and the final excuse is always the parents or the students fault. But the school was much better 4 years ago, with the same parents and same students. Pretty obvious that the problem is the new principal. Do your kids a favor and choose a different school. Close Quote

Open Quote The past 2 years have been a disaster! They will tell you that it's rigorous, it's not. It's busy work and low level. They will give your kids a few tidbits, interesting facts (mainly history or science) and tell your kids to come home and tell you, but it's just part of the show. When it comes to reading and math, the instruction and skills are severely lacking. The principal would sell picture books to blind kids and be proud of his deceit. If you want a good education for your kids, this is not the school for you. Close Quote

Open Quote Scores tell it all. Beware of the talk track at the "open house" that you have to attend. We found all of it untrue. The principal and assistant principal just care about the number of students and new building. There is no integrity to be found in the running of the school. Kids fall behind quickly but teachers give them good grades so that you don't know how bad it is. Don't trust the grades, don't trust the principal. This is why charters get bad names. Go to Ridgeview, New Vision, or Liberty. Close Quote

Open Quote Loveland Classical has made such a positive impact in my children's lives that we are forever grateful for the school. Their focus on character education reiterates what is taught at home. The staff's passion for learning is contagious, and every day that I pick up my children from their school, they can't wait to tell me the amazing things they learned. Chemistry, classical literature, complex mathematical equations, battles that changed history, favorite classical composers, and an understanding and appreciation for different art techniques fill our conversation at dinner. We are so blessed to be part of this school and to have so many caring and passionate teachers. We have attended since the school opened in 2011 and have seen marked growth every year. We can't even fathom how it will improve next year. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
