Roaring Fork High School

Summary:

Roaring Fork High School is a public high school serving grades 9-12 in Carbondale, Colorado, with a student population of 427. The school is part of the Roaring Fork School District No. Re-1, which is ranked 60 out of 116 school districts in the state and has a 3-star rating.

Roaring Fork High School has shown strong academic performance in reading and writing assessments, outperforming the district and state averages in the percentage of students proficient or better in SAT Reading and Writing, as well as PSAT9 Reading and Writing for 9th graders. However, the school's performance in mathematics lags behind, with only 37% of 11th graders proficient or better in SAT Mathematics, compared to 33% for the district and 31% for the state. The school's performance also varies significantly among different racial subgroups, with White students performing well but Hispanic students ranking much lower compared to other Colorado high schools.

When compared to nearby schools like Glenwood Springs High School and Basalt High School, Roaring Fork High School generally performs better in reading and writing assessments but lags behind in mathematics. Additionally, the school's socioeconomic status, with 25.53% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, is higher than the nearby schools, indicating that Roaring Fork High School may face additional challenges in supporting its student population. The school's fluctuating ranking over the years and the performance of the Colorado River BOCES district as a whole suggest that the Roaring Fork School District may need to reevaluate its strategies and allocate resources to support all its high schools effectively.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Excellent faculty, safe learning environment, students of all levels demonstrate excellent growth on state and classroom assessments. The school has an extremely friendly atmosphere and outstanding tech resources, has high standards for academics and behavior, and has a very child-centered faculty. The only school in the district that has a geodesic grow-dome for cultivating food for use in its lunchroom.

RFHS also has an excellent assortment of curriculum-based experiential education opportunities available for its students, as well as internships, independent study, and dual-credit college courses offered on campus. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
