Traylor Academy

Summary:

Traylor Academy is an elementary school in Denver, Colorado, serving students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. With a declining statewide ranking and a 0-star rating, Traylor Academy faces significant challenges in academic performance compared to its peers.

Traylor Academy stands out for its high percentage of Hispanic students (73.15%) and students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds (73.46% receive free or reduced-price lunch). However, the school consistently underperforms the School District No. 1 and the state averages in CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) test scores for English Language Arts and Math. For example, in 2023-2024, only 14.4% of Traylor Academy students were proficient or better in CMAS/English Language Arts, compared to 40.7% for the district and 44.1% for the state.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, such as Denison Montessori School, Gust Elementary School, and Sabin World School, generally outperform Traylor Academy in academic measures, despite serving similar student populations. This suggests that there may be opportunities for Traylor Academy to learn from the practices and strategies of these higher-performing schools to improve its own academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter Sophia is attending 4yr ECE at Traylor, and so we can only speak to that program and not the school overall. The teacher (Mrs Kaspersen) and her teaching assistant (Mrs. O'Brien) are absolutely delightful. They are so warm and welcoming. Mrs Kaspersen would stand by the door every day to greet each and every student as they come in. She always wears a smile on her face. We also know that their Preschool program ranks very high in the state. Hence, we'd highly recommend their ECE program! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
