Trailblazer Elementary School

Summary:

Trailblazer Elementary School is a public elementary school in Colorado Springs, Colorado, serving 214 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. While the school has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of White and Hispanic students compared to state and district averages, its academic performance lags behind both state and district benchmarks.

Trailblazer's CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) test scores show that only 30.1% of students are proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 44.1% statewide and 37.5% in the Colorado Springs School District No. 11. In math, 41% of Trailblazer students are proficient or better, higher than the district average of 29.3% but still below the state average of 34.2%. The school's student-teacher ratio is relatively low, ranging from 12.3 to 13.8 over the past three years, suggesting smaller class sizes and potentially more individualized attention for students.

When compared to nearby schools, Trailblazer's academic performance is generally lower. For instance, Howbert Elementary School, also part of the Colorado Springs School District, outperforms Trailblazer on most CMAS test metrics. Similarly, schools in the neighboring Academy School District No. 20, such as Woodmen-Roberts Elementary and Rockrimmon Elementary, significantly outperform Trailblazer on academic measures. The school's declining statewide ranking, from 362 out of 929 Colorado elementary schools in 2016-2017 to 528 out of 943 in 2023-2024, suggests that it may be facing challenges in keeping up with the academic progress of other schools in the state.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school's academics are are suffering due to this Next Gen crap. I am having to teach my kids at home to keep them up to speed all the time. The principal cares about image and appearances over real education. Kids are sitting in front of screens far too much. Good teachers are leaving to get away from the Next Gen model. There are some good things here, yes, but the negatives are starting to outweigh the good and I will be choicing my kids out of this school next year to a place where education matters more than image. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
