Dry Creek Elementary School

Summary:

Dry Creek Elementary School is a public elementary school in Englewood, Colorado, serving 310 students in grades PK-5. As part of the highly-ranked Cherry Creek School District No. 5, Dry Creek consistently outperforms the district and state in academic assessments, ranking among the top elementary schools in Colorado.

Dry Creek Elementary's academic excellence is evident in its significantly higher proficiency rates compared to the district and state averages in CMAS/Science (80.4% vs. 43.3% district, 37.9% state), CMAS/English Language Arts (67.4% vs. 48.3% district, 44.1% state), and CMAS/Math (60% vs. 40.8% district, 34.2% state). The school has maintained a 4- or 5-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past decade and has been ranked as high as 21st out of 938 elementary schools in Colorado. However, Dry Creek's student population is less diverse, with a higher percentage of White students (59.35%) and a lower percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (18.06%) than nearby schools like Acres Green Elementary School and Red Hawk Ridge Elementary School.

Dry Creek Elementary's consistent academic excellence, statewide recognition, and demographic differences compared to nearby schools make it a desirable choice for families in the Englewood area. While the school's high performance is impressive, the socioeconomic and racial makeup of its student population may have implications for the school's resources, programming, and the experiences of its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I attended this school and it was definitely nurturing for learning. I got the best education going to this school and help with my reading and writing. The staff excel at what they do and have influenced me to pursue a career in education as well. Close Quote

Open Quote Staff is entitled and inflexible. If your student isn't at grade-level across the board, you will have difficulties in getting the teachers to accommodate your student. The administration seems well-intentioned but unable to exert any control over the elitist teachers who have been allowed for too long to run the show. There is no differentiation for kids who don't excel naturally. 5th grade teachers are TERRIBLY inflexible and cold. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
