Lansing Elementary Community School

Summary:

Lansing Elementary Community School is a public elementary school in Aurora, Colorado, serving 337 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Aurora Joint District No. 28, which is ranked 107 out of 116 districts in Colorado and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lansing Elementary consistently ranks among the lowest-performing elementary schools in Colorado, with statewide rankings between 795 and 937 out of over 900 schools over the past decade. The school's performance on CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) tests is significantly below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 14% of Lansing Elementary students were proficient or better in CMAS English Language Arts, compared to 24.2% for the Aurora district and 44.1% for the state. Lansing Elementary has a very high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 81.58% to 87.24% over the past three school years, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

When comparing Lansing Elementary to other schools in the immediate vicinity, it becomes clear that the school is an outlier in terms of academic performance. For example, Aurora Academy Charter School, which is less than a mile away, consistently outperforms Lansing Elementary by a significant margin on CMAS tests, with proficiency rates that are over 30 percentage points higher in some cases. The racial makeup of Lansing Elementary's student body is similar to that of many nearby schools, suggesting that factors beyond just racial demographics may be contributing to the low achievement levels.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son will never go back to this school again. I will home school him before he returns to this school. He has complained the entire school year that he believes his teacher is PREJUDICE. Iam beginning to believe him. The majority of the students spend there time fighting amoung races and not learning much of anything. He complains that his teacher ignors his complaints or down plays his statments. He also complains that some of the work he gets he done in the third grade. Close Quote

Open Quote I enrolled my son in this school because it was our home school. It was the absolute worst school and experience I have ever experienced. I am going to send a complaint to the Superintendant of Aurora Pblic Schools. The 2nd grade teacher (Mrs. Tscherter) did not care about all the children equally, she allowed the children to make racisit remarks about other children , she does not keep in touch with parent in reagrds to the childrens needs, she gave out 1st grade level homework, and basically relied on her emotions and opinions to teach the children instead of being professional and following a proper standard. I do not feel that the school provides an environment condusive to the success of each child. I would not recommend this school if it can be helped. My child does not go there and its only blocks from my house. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
