Academy of Arts and Knowledge Elementary

Summary:

Academy of Arts and Knowledge Elementary is a public charter school in Fort Collins, Colorado that serves 176 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school stands out for its diverse student population, with higher percentages of minority and economically disadvantaged students compared to nearby high-performing public schools like Zach Elementary and Shepardson Elementary.

While the school's overall academic performance, as measured by state test scores, is generally lower than its neighbors, it does outperform the Poudre School District and Colorado state averages in certain areas, such as 5th grade Science. The school also maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio of 13.1, suggesting more individualized attention for students. However, the school's ranking has fluctuated over the years, indicating inconsistent performance and potential challenges in maintaining high academic achievement.

Compared to the nearby high-performing public schools, Academy of Arts and Knowledge Elementary lags behind in overall English Language Arts and Math proficiency. This suggests the school may need to closely examine its curriculum, instructional practices, and support systems to better serve its diverse student population. The school's focus on arts and knowledge could be a unique selling point, but the data does not provide specific information about the impact of this approach on student learning and engagement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is such a wonderful and unique school! No homework in K-3 and only a little in 4-5, class sizes that allow for real learning, enough recess time and a curriculum including art, music and drama rounds out this unique school. My kids absolutely LOVE it here and the teachers and staff really care about the kids! Close Quote

Open Quote the teachers that T R Paul have hired are often 1st year teachers with little to no experience. I have both witnessed and experienced two of the teachers be repeatedly mean to students. The parents have had to change teachers or even schools to avoid this and reduce the harm done to their child. I regret having enrolled my child in this school Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
