Open Quote My son has been going to Whittier Friends School since he was 3 and in preschool. He is now in second grade and we couldn't be happier. He wakes me up early every morning so I can take him to school as soon as morning daycare opens. I love the fact that he has had the same teachers since kindergarten and they really know him. He's allowed to excel and go ahead in math and science, but he got the extra support he needed in reading. This last month his reading has just taken off and his teachers have been really responsive and kept up with him material wise. Everyone is so caring (but they still enforce the rules!) and there is a real community atmosphere. Close Quote

Open Quote We were looking for a small private school for our son where he would receive more teacher/student time. We found Whittier Friends on the internet and drove over to see what it was all about. Our son has been there two years now and he has made remarkable advances in subjects he used to struggle with. The classes are small and the curriculum is tailored to match the abilitly of each child. As they improve they are given more challenging work. Everyone at Whittier Friends is like family. The kids get to participate in several field trips during the year and special events that they put together. This is a great school and the kids get to experience more things than just sitting in a class and reading a book and listening to lectures. They will be exposed to music, art, drama, science as well as the 3 R's. Our son looks forward to each school day. Close Quote

Open Quote I recently enrolled my son at Whittier Friends School due to him being bullied at the public elementary school he was attending. I found that the classroom size was small (8 kids total in classroom) and the teacher gives him personalized attention he was not getting at the public schools (31 students in classroom). My son is no longer being bullied and now has kids he can call his "Friends". He is able to participate and give his input in the classroom activities without being drowned out and be ignored. Since the classroom setting is so small, it feels more like family than just a classroom. My son looks forward to going to school and that is a GREAT thing! Close Quote

Open Quote My son has attended Whittier Friends School since pre-school. He is now in 5th grade. This is a wonderful small school and a community of parents and educators who really care about my son. His teacher works directly with him and personizes his instruction to help him learn and achieve. His natural curiosity is channeled into projects and ideas that interest him. Whittier Friends has wonderful field trips, community projects, a science fair and lessons that tie into overall themes for the year. My son participates in drama and art projects. I have seen him become a confident kid and a caring person. I feel so lucky we found Whittier Friends. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
