Open Quote I am an alum of Alverno. The education I received was very strong in making me the person I am today. Not only do they teach the basic high school studies, they teach what being a strong woman in this society means. Be true to yourself, help others and love your religion. If I had a daughter, I would certainly give Alverno a good look for her. Close Quote

Open Quote Alverno is a wonderful high school with a lot to offer young women. The education, teachers and administration are top notch and they really care about their students. My daughter is currently at UC Berkeley and she is doing well in all her classes, is involved in a variety of collegiate clubs and she volunteers to help with medical research at the local hospital. She has declared her major as pre-med and I am grateful to Alverno for giving my daughter an academic edge in such a competitive environment. Many other high schools in the area are over-priced, but Alverno is reasonable and definitely worth the money! Close Quote

Open Quote Attending Alverno High School was one of the best gifts my parents gave me. I was given the opportunity to be well educated and prepared for the future world of University undergraduate and graduate studies. Alverno also provided me four years of spiritual growth and personal growth that let me explore who I was as a young woman, my strengths and weakness and challenged me to reach for all I could in academics and in athletics. As an athlete I was able to participate on a CIF champion softball team as well as an outstanding soccer team. My coaches were inspirational and excellent role models. As far as leadership opportunities, student body government, school clubs and organizations the list to choose from was endless. As the student body we were empowered to plan and organize special events, Mass, fund raisers and other school functions. My Community service in an elementary school fostered my love children and I now work as a counselor in a school. Alverno is the place for young women to get a well rounded education, to discover who they are and to make friendships that last a lifetime. I only wish I had a daughter as I would send her to Alverno. Jennifer Jesser '81 Close Quote

Open Quote The administration is horrible. Some teachers have been good, but more have been poor. The talk a good line when trying to sell the school during open house and other events, but once you are there, the truth comes out. I don't like the idea of changing my child's school solely because of this, but have found the need to supplement with outside tutoring which I did not think would be necessary when sending her to this school. We will grin and bear it, and be glad come graduation day when we leave this place run by a bunch of amateurs. My younger daughter will definitely not go here. WE will drive farther and pay more if necessary and are already talking to parents at other schools and hope that they have a similar level of candor with us. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
