Brywood Elementary

Summary:

Brywood Elementary is a highly-rated public elementary school in Irvine, California, serving 560 students in grades K-6. As part of the Irvine Unified School District, which is ranked 5 out of 5 stars by SchoolDigger, Brywood Elementary has consistently maintained a 5-star rating, indicating its strong academic performance.

Brywood Elementary's academic achievements are impressive, with students consistently outperforming the Irvine Unified School District and the state of California in Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics. For the 2023-2024 school year, Brywood's proficiency rates in ELA/Literacy and Mathematics were 78.17% and 77.04%, respectively, compared to the district's 73.94% and 69.35%, and the state's 47.04% and 35.54%. The school's performance in Science, as measured by the CAST assessment, is also exceptional, with a 76.47% proficiency rate compared to the district's 62.01% and the state's 30.7%. Brywood's student subgroups, including Asian, White, Multi-racial, English Language Learners, and Special Education students, also perform exceptionally well, ranking in the top 5-10% to 30-35% of California elementary schools.

While Brywood Elementary's overall performance is outstanding, the school faces some competition from nearby high-performing schools, such as Irvine International Academy, a public charter school that also demonstrates exceptional academic outcomes. Additionally, there may be opportunities for Brywood to further improve the academic performance of certain student subgroups, such as Hispanic and Low Socioeconomic Status students, whose results, while still strong, lag behind the school's top-performing subgroups. Nevertheless, Brywood Elementary's consistent excellence and the availability of other high-quality educational options in the Irvine area make it a standout choice for families seeking a top-notch elementary school experience.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Extremely RUDE front office employees who act like parents/children are a bother to them. If they were working for a private sector, they would have been fired long time ago. Totally unacceptable behavior and leaves a bad impression on the school. Put them out of their misery and please replace them with people who actually want to be there. Close Quote

Open Quote The class sizes are very large. The APAAS program has a teacher who should not be teaching gifted students. She calls them her, "little nerds!" Imagine a teacher being so oblivious or uncaring about the impact of her words when parents are working hard to encourage their children in academics. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
