As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son has attended McCoppin for 5 years now (K-4) and I would recommend this school. The literacy program that was established 2 years ago has helped my son become an active reader and writer. The teachers embrace technology and encourage the students to use math and reading software. Yes, the computer equipment is outdated, but it works. As for the principal not being visible, that is far from the truth, I don't know if the parent made a review in Feb 2015 realized that the principal broke his leg and was at home on the mend for most of the school year. Unfortunately, the district assigned several principals to fill in and yes, they were not visible. The regular principal can been seen most mornings directing traffic both at the curb or in the yard. He responds to emails within hours. The school district has finally decided to upgrade this aging facility and will be complete in 2017. So there will be a proper cafeteria so the kids don't have to eat outside. The teachers are great and dedicated, The PTO is revived and is committed. As with any school, the experience is a partnership between a competent and innovative administration, dedicated and caring teachers, and supportive and engaged parents, all of which McCoppin has. Open Quote I definitely do not recommend McCoppin Elementary School. Very high teacher turnover even though this is a small school 2 veteran teachers left just a few months into the new school year. There is a lot of turmoil at this school and very poor leadership. The principal is not a visible presence and is absent a lot. No special events for parents and students. No student performances or school assemblies because the cafeteria/general purpose room can't be used. Instead a preschool occupies just a small section of this large room. Close Quote

Open Quote McCoppin Elementary is a mess beacause of poor leadership. The prinicipal has been here too long and has done nothing to make the school special because he just doesn't care. He is absent a lot and has a regular substitute teacehr to cover for him. A former 2nd grade teacher at McCoppin taught there for 3 years without ever earning a teaching credential. No technology in classrooms and the computer lab was shut down for years. The cafeteria is strangely used as a preschool classroom so students have to eat lunch outside in the yard. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
