Tehipite Middle

Summary:

Tehipite Middle is a public middle school located in Fresno, California, serving grades 7-8 with a total enrollment of 481 students. The school is part of the Fresno Unified School District, which is ranked 1082 out of 1568 districts in California and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. Tehipite Middle has consistently ranked in the bottom quartile of California middle schools, with a ranking between 2233 and 2657 out of around 2,800 schools over the past several years.

Tehipite Middle faces significant challenges, particularly in terms of student engagement and academic achievement. The school has significantly higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the district and state averages, with a rate of 46.6% in the 2022-2023 school year. Additionally, the school's academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is significantly below the district and state averages across all subject areas and grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 20.72% of Tehipite Middle students were proficient or better in English Language Arts/Literacy, compared to 34.72% for the Fresno Unified district and 47.04% for the state of California. The school's math and science proficiency rates are even lower, at 7.26% and 5.21%, respectively.

When comparing Tehipite Middle to other nearby middle schools in the Fresno Unified district, it becomes clear that the school is an outlier in terms of academic performance and other key metrics. For example, Tioga Middle and Scandinavian Middle, which are both within a few miles of Tehipite, have significantly higher test scores and lower chronic absenteeism rates. This suggests that a comprehensive, data-driven approach to school improvement is needed to address the root causes of Tehipite Middle's struggles and provide a high-quality education for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I rate tehippiti so low because they are no help with harassment and bullying at school. They go through the motions but nothing productive or solvent comes of it. My kid no longer enjoys school, she can't concentrate on her learning because the constant harassment in class. Teachers act like they don't hear a thing. It's ridiculous. I'm scared for my daughter, she's been punched in the back, hit with rulers, and thrown to the ground..help Close Quote

Open Quote This is unfortunately one of the schools if you dare call it school, I would liken it more to a detention center. From enrollment to withdrawal it is a sad experience. Most staff is on a self preservation Mode coupled with indifference. One need to be an adrenaline junkie to appreciate this environment. Maybe 10% can glean a sustainable day out of it. We would not recommend to the Normal person. No. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
