Newcastle Elementary

The Newcastle Elementary District in California is home to two high-performing elementary schools: Newcastle Charter and Newcastle Elementary. Both schools have consistently ranked in the top half of California elementary schools over the past three years, with Newcastle Elementary ranking higher than Newcastle Charter.

Academically, both schools significantly outperform the state average in Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics across all grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Newcastle Charter had 69.51% of students proficient or better in ELA/Literacy, compared to the state average of 47.04%. Similarly, Newcastle Elementary had 69.31% proficient or better, also well above the state average. In Mathematics, Newcastle Charter had 54.71% proficient or better, and Newcastle Elementary had 67.33%, both significantly higher than the state average of 35.54%.

While both schools demonstrate strong academic performance, there are some differences in their demographic factors. Newcastle Elementary has a lower student-teacher ratio of 14.3, compared to 27 at Newcastle Charter. Additionally, both schools have relatively low rates of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, at around 25% for each school. These factors may contribute to the higher statewide ranking of Newcastle Elementary compared to Newcastle Charter.
