Academically, R Pete Woodard Junior High School consistently performs below the state and district averages in standardized test scores for English Language Arts and Mathematics. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates were 37% in 6th grade ELA, 35% in 7th grade ELA, and 26% in 8th grade ELA, compared to the state averages of 43%, 41%, and 35%, respectively. The school also has relatively high dropout rates, ranging from 2.0% to 2.6% over the past five years, which is higher than the state average. When compared to other middle schools in the Yuma area, R Pete Woodard Junior High School generally performs worse academically. For instance, in 2023-2024, the school's 8th grade ELA proficiency rate of 26% was significantly lower than the 22% at Fourth Avenue Junior High School and the 24% at Centennial Middle School, both of which are in the Crane Elementary District. The school's declining enrollment and ranking, from 391 out of 533 Arizona middle schools in 2023-2024 to 572 out of 854 in 2022-2023, suggest it may be facing challenges in providing a high-quality education to its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school's administration does not effectively run this school. In an attempt to cater to my child's needs, we were told he would be in a STEM class. My child did not learn much in this "high level" elective due to a large class size and limited materials for the teacher. I feel as though, I was told whatever I needed to hear, to enroll my child in the school, but the program in not actually a high level STEM Program as it was described. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
