Cavett Elementary School

Summary:

Cavett Elementary School is a public elementary school in Tucson, Arizona, serving 173 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Tucson Unified District, which is ranked 373 out of 540 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cavett Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom 10-20% of Arizona elementary schools, with a 0-1 star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating very low academic performance. The school has a significantly higher percentage of Hispanic students (over 80%) compared to the state and district averages, and a very high percentage of students (over 80%) eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage. Despite these challenges, Cavett Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending ($11,077 to $13,246) compared to nearby schools like Van Buskirk Elementary School, Borton Primary Magnet School, and Robison Elementary School.

The combination of low academic performance, high poverty rates, and a predominantly Hispanic student population suggests that Cavett Elementary may face significant challenges in terms of access to resources, teacher quality, and other factors that can impact student learning. While the nearby schools also serve high-need populations, Cavett Elementary generally performs worse academically, with lower proficiency rates and lower overall rankings. Addressing these challenges will likely require a multifaceted approach, including targeted interventions, increased resources, and a focus on equity and access to ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Teachers at Cavett really care about their students really learning. One of their finest teacher in Cavett is Mrs. Mills. My son had this teacher for 3 years and she challenge him to do his best and he did. Parents and teachers need to be more involved in the education of our children for them succeed. The school is not what makes the student achieve, it's the teachers and parents working together for them to succeed. It makes me sad that a school is know by a Amis test and not by how the teachers are working so hard for their students to learn. You have to be at this school and see how teachers are involve with their students and how hard they are trying for them to learn. Children always need to be challenge and you be suprise how far they will go. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
