As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have been so impressed with the school administrators and teaching staff!!! My children will continue to attend Arizona Desert until they promote to high school even though we have moved 15 miles away! The principal and assistant are always available, in the front of school in the mornings and when I pick my child up each day. The teachers enjoy teaching and seem to really get along well. I have seen so much growth in my son and daughter since coming to the school. Thank you to all of the staff! Close Quote

Open Quote If you are considering working at Arizona Desert Elementary (AZD) or any other school in the Tolleson Elementary School District, stay clear! I and many other teachers across the district experienced extremely hostile administration, unfair observations, and an overall lack of support/respect from our district leaders. Over half of the teachers in just my building resigned at the end of the school year, many of whom are veteran teachers. Furthermore, the school hired four SPED teachers over the course of the year (VERY high turnover rate). Additionally, there is no school-wide discipline model in place to address negative student behavior despite the school’s website stating they use PBIS. Lastly, I averaged 27 students per class this is new information over what is presented on other websites which gives lower numbers. I quit my Principal, not my students or colleagues. Given the tremendous teacher shortage across the country, look elsewhere. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
