Summary:

Fremont Junior High School is a public middle school located in Mesa, Arizona, serving 984 students in grades 7-8. The school is part of the Mesa Unified District, which is ranked 179 out of 288 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Fremont Junior High School's academic performance, as measured by state assessment scores, is generally on par with or slightly below the district and state averages. For example, the school's 7th grade English Language Arts proficiency rate was 39%, compared to the district's 36% and the state's 41%. However, the school's 8th grade Math proficiency rate of 42% was higher than the district's 24% and the state's 28%. The school's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with the school ranking highly for Native American and Pacific Islander students, but much lower for Hispanic and Special Education students. Additionally, Fremont Junior High School has seen a gradual increase in its dropout rate, from 0.1% in 2017-2018 to 2.0% in 2021-2022, which is higher than the state's average middle school dropout rate.

Compared to nearby schools like Desert Ridge Junior High and Highland Junior High School, Fremont Junior High School's performance is generally lower, with those schools having higher academic proficiency rates and better overall rankings. However, Fremont Junior High School outperforms schools like Taylor Junior High School and Poston Junior High School, which have significantly lower test scores and rankings. The school's challenges, including declining rankings, increasing dropout rates, and significant disparities in the performance of different student subgroups, should be a priority for the school and the Mesa Unified District to improve student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I only gave them one star because zero is not a choice. This school used to be decent when my daughter went there. Now they cant seem to figure out their computer grading system teachers don't enter grades. most kids have d's and F's do to a lack of Teacher /student and grade book communication. I have had to go to school almost everyday since it started and fight just to keep my sons grades entered... currently he has one class with no grades entered, one that says hes missing in class work when he is there... Its a losing battle with this school I also know four parents that have pulled their kids out to take on home schooling because of the same issues. DO Not put your kids in this school if you have a choice! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
