Open Quote If this school is an A+ rated school, I am terrified to see see what a non A+ rated school looks like in this district. We cannot make a switch soon enough. Thank God for School of Choice. These "teachers" are not teachers at all they are glorified baby sitters. Do yourself and your child a favor and check out one of the Charter Schools in the area (American Leadership Academy, Benjamin Franklin or Legacy Traditional ---- BTW all tuition FREE!!! AND Common Core FREE!!!). This school is just a facility for a bunch of "group learning" with little to no teacher involvement or instruction. Just laziness at full capacity here. They need to spend less time fund raising, ordering coordinating teacher shirts and worrying about when their next break is and spend more time teaching!!!! TO students and NOT to tests!! Wish we would have switched out of this school sooner...a complete waste of a school year for our child Close Quote

Open Quote I taught at this school and felt that the teachers worked very hard and tried their best. However, we worked under a principal that did not really interact well with students and was practically a bully to its staff. They year I left so did about 1/3 of the teachers. 75% of my team chose to leave as we did not want to work with her. Mrs. Ybarra is still there so I doubt much has changed. Close Quote

Open Quote We were very skeptical about placing our child in the Higley School District because of the many negative things we had heard. However, we thought we would give Centennial a try since it is our neighborhood school and we are so happy that we did! The prinicpal, Mrs. Ybarra, plays a strong role in holding the teachers accountable for maintaining the excelling schools status. You will find her on campus on most days and she is very involved in the daily activities. We believe that our child is thriving at Centennial-they differentiate the children based on their learning level and she is challenged everyday. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
