Pinnacle Pointe Academy

Summary:

Pinnacle Pointe Academy is a public charter elementary school serving grades K-8 in Glendale, Arizona, with a student population of 136. The school is part of the Pointe Schools District, which is ranked 266 out of 540 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Pinnacle Pointe Academy has a higher percentage of White students (66.91%) compared to the state average, and a lower percentage of Hispanic (16.18%) and African American (5.15%) students. The school's academic performance has shown a decline in its statewide ranking over the years, dropping from a high of 178 out of 1,106 Arizona elementary schools in 2015-2016 to 559 out of 1,245 in 2022-2023. Its performance on state assessments is also mixed, with some grades and subjects performing above the state and district averages, while others are below. However, Pinnacle Pointe Academy has performed well in serving its special education population, ranking 148 out of 820 Arizona elementary schools in 2022-2023.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Inspiration Mountain School, Sierra Verde STEAM Academy, and Great Hearts Academies - Archway Glendale, Pinnacle Pointe Academy generally underperforms. The school's performance has also been somewhat inconsistent over the years, with its statewide ranking and academic proficiency rates fluctuating. This suggests that the school may be facing challenges in maintaining consistent academic excellence, and there may be opportunities for improvement and further investigation, particularly in addressing potential equity and access issues related to the school's racial makeup.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This charter school is way above what I saw when helping out my grandkids in the public school in Deer Valley.
My daughter switched to this school early on when all schools were virtual. This school actually did virtual well in comparison. However when it went to in person there was a dramatic difference from when they had in person last year in DV. The principal and teachers truly care, and communicate regularly with the parents with in depth understanding of what the child does well as well as what they need to work on.
They are responsive to individual needs, and went out of their way to welcome new kids. They also teach math in a much more understandable way. I still don't know what objective the DV school system was hoping to achieve with how they were teaching math.
This school also keeps class sizes down. The teachers really get to know each kid. My daughter shares the emails the teacher send out and it is obvious just how much caring and understanding of each grandchild they have.
If your kid or grandchild is struggling with virtual school or in person school you owe it to yourself to check this school out. The principal always welcome visitors to the school.
I am actually a grandparent but the drop down for I am a . . . doesn't use that so I put parent because I do help out my grandkids since school is so important. Close Quote

Open Quote If you aren't 100 happy with public education, or if you are looking for small class sizes to keep your children even safer, I strongly recommend Pinnacle Point Academy! As a former teacher, and as a grandma to two first grade twins, the education offered at this charter school is phenomenal in comparison compared to what they were getting in public school. The principal and teachers truly care, and communicate often and regularly. They are responsive to individual needs, and went out of their way to welcome both new kids and concerned parents during a pandemic. The individual attention, the small class size and their ability to teach young children during COVID has been remarkable. I would highly recommend this school to anyone concerned about their child's education! Close Quote

Open Quote 2016-2017 District Administration was found to be in violation by the United States Department of Civil Rights for retaliation of a students disability. The Arizona board of Education found them to be in non compliance and they many violations including teachers that were not certified through the Arizona board. Students Math and English proficiency scores are low and under average. Check out their history of poor and negative reviews regarding administration and teacher turnover before enrolling your children. Close Quote

Open Quote This is my son's second year at Pinnacle Pointe and I have yet to encounter any problems. My child did not attend pre-school so I was slightly concerned as to how he would "catch up." He now is a fluid reader and writer and his math comprehension is great! He has had highly qualified teachers and it shows.

I teach in the public school system and I would say that the education that my son is receiving at Pinnacle Pointe is comparable, if not better.

My only concern would be the turnover, however, I can say first hand that this happens in public, non-charter schools as well. Teacher and student turn-over is unfortunately common in Arizona.

Overall, this has been a positive place for my son to be. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
