Prairie Grove Elementary School

Summary:

Prairie Grove Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 767 students in grades PK-3 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, which is part of the Prairie Grove School District. While the district is ranked 35 out of 252 in the state and has a 4-star rating, Prairie Grove Elementary's academic performance is generally below state and district averages.

The school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, and Science for all grades were 37.9%, 39.8%, 40.3%, and 33%, respectively, compared to the state averages of 33.8%, 34.1%, 36.4%, and 35.6%. Additionally, the school has seen a significant increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 33.22% in 2021-2022 to 50.67% in 2020-2021, indicating a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students. The school's student-teacher ratio has also increased from 18.1 in 2020-2021 to 19.6 in 2022-2023, which is higher than the state average, and its spending per student was $7,975 in 2018-2019, lower than the state average.

Additionally, the school's statewide ranking has dropped from 139 out of 488 Arkansas elementary schools in 2018-2019 to 223 out of 497 in 2023-2024, indicating a decline in performance over time. The school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students is likely a significant factor in its academic challenges, and the district may need to explore targeted interventions and support programs to address this issue.

Open Quote I've found that Prairie Grove Elementary is so clickish. They care more about wearing their uggs and starting rumors about children, gossiping and being snarky than they actually do about teaching the children. Their communication efforts are a joke. Don't send your kids here if you actually want them to learn. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
