Skyview Elementary School

Summary:

Skyview Elementary School is a public elementary school in Morgantown, West Virginia, serving 427 students in grades PK-5. While the school is part of the highly-ranked Monongalia County Schools district, Skyview's performance lags behind some of the top-performing schools in the area.

Skyview's student population is predominantly White (83.14%), with lower percentages of African American (3.04%) and Hispanic (2.81%) students compared to the state average. The school's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, ranging from 157th to 253rd out of 368-422 West Virginia elementary schools, and its SchoolDigger rating has varied from 2 to 3 stars out of 5. Skyview's student proficiency rates in Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Science are consistently lower than the Monongalia County and West Virginia state averages, particularly in 5th-grade Mathematics and Science.

Skyview's performance trails behind nearby high-achieving schools like Cheat Lake Elementary, Ridgedale Elementary, and North Elementary, which consistently rank among the best in the state. This may be due in part to Skyview's relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with around 61% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite having a relatively low student-teacher ratio, Skyview's academic outcomes suggest that more targeted interventions and support may be needed to help improve student performance and address achievement gaps for specific student subgroups.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My grandchildren attend Skyview Elementary. The people at the school care about the kids and do their best to support the families of the children. My phone calls are always returned and I am encouraged to visit the school. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is poorly operated.the principal and vice principal and counselor all target low income children and make kids that dress differently feel as is they are doing something wrong. Kids are not allowed to touch each other without being accused of being sexually explicit. People who are in charge of this school have a authority problem. And they are making these children suffer emotional problems. Just for dressing different than other kids. I don't understand why you would become a principal or person of authority if you knew you would abuse your power. Who are you to pass judgment on children's creative ideas. In clothing art and physical contact. Unless it is causing harm. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
