Madison Elementary

Summary:

Madison Elementary is a public elementary school in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, serving 288 students in grades PK-5. While the school's overall performance lags behind the Wauwatosa School District and the state of Wisconsin averages, it excels in supporting certain student subgroups.

Madison Elementary's African American and special education students consistently rank in the top 20% and top 25% of Wisconsin elementary schools, respectively, in recent years. However, the school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 6.4% in 2020-2021 to 13.9% in 2022-2023, which is higher than the district and state averages. The school's spending per student, ranging from $11,105 to $12,967, is higher than the nearby Milwaukee School District schools but lower than the Wauwatosa School District average.

Interestingly, the nearby Milwaukee public schools, such as Bryant Elementary, Lancaster Elementary, and Grantosa Drive Elementary, consistently rank in the bottom 10% of Wisconsin elementary schools and have significantly lower student proficiency rates compared to Madison Elementary and the state averages. This highlights the disparities in educational outcomes within the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
