Dimensions of Learning Academy

Summary:

Dimensions of Learning Academy is a public charter elementary school serving 218 students in grades K-8 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, which is part of the Kenosha School District. This high-performing school has consistently outperformed the district and state in academic proficiency, with particularly strong results for Hispanic and male students.

Dimensions of Learning Academy's academic excellence is evident across grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, the school had higher proficiency rates than the district and state in 8th grade English Language Arts, 4th grade Mathematics, and 8th grade Social Studies. This strong performance has earned Dimensions a top-50 ranking among Wisconsin elementary schools in the past. However, the school's performance for female students and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds has been more mixed, an area that warrants further attention.

While Dimensions of Learning Academy generally outperforms nearby traditional public schools in the Kenosha School District, such as Frank Elementary, Brass Community School, and McKinley Elementary, the nearby charter school Kenosha School of Technology Enhanced Curriculum has shown comparable or even stronger academic performance in some areas. Additionally, Dimensions has a lower percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients compared to many of the neighboring schools, suggesting it serves a more economically diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Through my profession I'm in touch with many students. I'm amazed by the number of children telling me that they are all A students. When asked about homework these same children tell me they never have any. How is that possible? My children attend DOLA and they do have homework! And they do perform well on state testing... and they are encouraged, and motivated, and driven to succeed. The staff is amazing especially the middle school teachers. The administration lives for this school. Parents are involved. I feel very lucky that my children attend Dimensions. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
