Green Lake Elementary School

Summary:

Green Lake Elementary School is a public elementary school in Seattle, Washington, serving 328 students in grades PK-5 and part of the Seattle School District No. 1.

Green Lake Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with 55.79% White, 9.45% African American, 8.23% Hispanic, and 8.54% Asian students - more diverse than nearby schools like West Woodland Elementary (71.9% White) and Loyal Heights Elementary (75.3% White). The school also performs well academically, with students outperforming state and district averages in English Language Arts and Math. Additionally, Green Lake Elementary excels in serving its special education students, ranking 27th out of 308 Washington elementary schools in this area.

While Green Lake Elementary generally performs well, its statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, and there are some areas for improvement. The school shows a gap in performance between female and male students, and nearby schools like Wedgwood Elementary and John Stanford International School consistently outperform it. Additionally, the school has seen a decrease in the percentage of White students and an increase in other racial/ethnic backgrounds, which may require adjustments to instructional approaches and resource allocation.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Love the inclusiveness here. It's great to see kids working side-by-side with children with disabilities. The school is small and has an active PTA, with lots of opportunities to get involved (even if you're a working parent, like many of us). Reading levels divide up to ensure kids are working at their own level, and math is also leveled. I appreciate that my child isn't forced into classes that will bore her, because she's already mastered concepts. Love that it's a neighborhood school and that we often see our friends in the wild (or at Green Lake). While there's not a language component, we are seeing our children receive social lessons that will shape them for life, lessons we couldn't teach them on our own. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
