Eckstein Middle School

Summary:

Eckstein Middle School is a high-performing public middle school in Seattle, Washington, serving 1,045 students in grades 6-8. The school consistently outperforms the Seattle School District and the state of Washington in academic achievement, ranking among the top 5% of middle schools in the state.

Eckstein Middle School's academic excellence is evident in its strong standardized test scores, with 77.51% of students proficient or better in SBAC/English Language Arts, compared to 67.59% for the district and 52.63% for the state. The school also ranks in the top 10% of Washington middle schools for the performance of White, Multi-racial, and Special Education students, and in the top 25% for Hispanic students. Eckstein's diverse student population, with 58.85% White, 4.59% African American, 8.52% Hispanic, 9.28% Asian, and 16.84% two or more races, further highlights its inclusive and equitable approach to education.

While Eckstein Middle School outperforms most nearby schools in the Seattle School District, such as Whitman Middle School and McClure Middle School, it is worth noting that some schools outside the district, such as Kellogg Middle School in the Shoreline School District and Kirkland Middle School in the Lake Washington School District, also demonstrate strong academic performance. Eckstein's success can be attributed to its efficient use of resources, with a significant increase in spending per student and a relatively low student-teacher ratio, which allows for more individualized attention and support.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I attend Eckstein and it is THE BOMB. The teachers rock and there are a ton of smart kids. If you want you're kid to go to a good public middle school, Eckstein is a good choice. There's also a really good music program at Eckstein. The bands, choirs, and orchestras are all REALLY good. And the music teachers, are of course, EXCELLENT. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
