Bryant Elementary School

Summary:

Bryant Elementary School is a high-performing public elementary school in Seattle, Washington, serving 479 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state, with students outperforming their peers in the Seattle School District No. 1 and the state of Washington on standardized tests for English Language Arts and Math.

One key differentiator for Bryant Elementary is its student population. The school has a significantly higher percentage of White (64.51%) and Asian (13.57%) students compared to nearby schools like Green Lake Elementary School and Sand Point Elementary. Additionally, Bryant Elementary has a very low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 3.34% to 4.38% over the past three school years, which is significantly lower than the surrounding schools.

Another notable aspect of Bryant Elementary is its higher per-student spending, ranging from $16,566 to $19,825 over the past four school years, compared to the state and district averages. This suggests the school may have access to more resources and funding, which could be a contributing factor to its academic success. However, this also raises questions about equity in resource allocation within the Seattle School District No. 1.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We have had a wonderful experience at Bryant! The teachers are amazing. Wonderful and supportive community - teachers, administration, and families. Even through the pandemic teachers have gone above and beyond to keep kids learning and safe! Close Quote

Open Quote Bryant is a community center, not a school. The kids there test high because of the education that they get from their parents not from their professors. My child attended kindergarten and 1st grade there.
In kindergarten they play with "educational" computer games sponsored by kellogs.
In first grade he came back at the end of the school year with almost empty science and math journals. The journals had stickers that said "great job" and "terrific".
The teacher followed the curriculum but never made sure the kids were learning or did their work.
My child scored a 96% in math 99% in reading n his MAP test. I guarantee that it was not because of the education he gets at Bryant elementary. On top of that the school principal does not like to talk about those issues and will do everything possible to avoid meeting with concern parents. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
