Marysville Middle School

Summary:

Marysville Middle School is a public middle school serving grades 6-8 in the Marysville School District, with a student population of 644 as of the 2022-2023 school year. The school's racial makeup is predominantly White (43.01%) and Hispanic (34.63%), with smaller percentages of other racial groups.

Despite spending more per student than the state average, Marysville Middle School consistently underperforms compared to the state and district averages on standardized tests. In the 2023-2024 school year, only 30.85% of all students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, and just 15.85% were proficient in math, well below the state averages. The school's performance on science assessments was also low, with only 19.37% of students meeting standards. This has resulted in a very low statewide ranking, placing Marysville Middle School in the bottom 10-15% of Washington middle schools.

The school also struggles to support the academic achievement of several student subgroups, ranking in the bottom 20-30% of Washington middle schools for White, Hispanic, and low-socioeconomic status students. With 65.68% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, Marysville Middle School has a high percentage of students from low-income families. These challenges suggest the school may need to re-evaluate its resource allocation and instructional practices to better support the diverse needs of its student population and improve academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Even though this might not be the best school, it does offer advanced classes that are better than any other school in the area. The band program is also phenomenal and many students who participate in it tend to be in advanced classes and continue their grades throughout school. Some of the teachers here are ones I will continue to visit even after I graduate. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
