College Place High School

Summary:

College Place High School is a public high school serving 461 students in grades 9-12 in College Place, Washington, which is part of the College Place School District. The school stands out for its diverse student population, strong graduation rates, and academic performance that generally exceeds nearby schools, though it faces some challenges in maintaining its statewide ranking and addressing achievement gaps.

One of College Place High School's key strengths is its diverse student body, with a balanced racial makeup of 48.37% White, 44.9% Hispanic, and 2.39% Asian students. The school also boasts relatively high four-year graduation rates, ranging from 90.3% to 95.9% over the past five years, outpacing the state average and nearby Prescott High School, which had an 81.8% graduation rate in 2019-2020. Additionally, College Place High School maintains low dropout rates, ranging from 0.0% to 2.2%, significantly better than the 44.9% dropout rate at the Walla Walla Open Doors program.

While College Place High School's test scores are below the state average, they are generally higher than those of nearby Prescott High School and Walla Walla Open Doors. However, the school's statewide ranking has declined in recent years, and it faces challenges in addressing achievement gaps among different student subgroups. To continue improving, College Place High School could learn from the practices of higher-performing nearby schools, such as Waitsburg High School and Walla Walla High School.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote As a graduate of the first graduating class this is the best high school. Teachers and students have such meaningful relationships, the staff works endlessly with you to get you graduated and to whatever it may be you want to do after high school! The local news papers twist stories into making my school mates and staff bad. I can personally say I learned so much and I will always love this school. We teach classes differently than a traditional high school and only have three classes a day! Give this school a shot you won’t regret it! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
