Spokane International Academy

Summary:

Spokane International Academy is a public magnet charter school in Spokane, Washington, serving 736 students from kindergarten to 10th grade. This diverse school stands out for its consistently strong academic performance, with students outperforming state averages in English Language Arts, Math, and Science proficiency.

Spokane International Academy's academic success is noteworthy, as the school's 10th-grade ELA proficiency rate is 76.92%, compared to the state average of 66.2%. The school's overall ELA and Math proficiency rates for all grades are also significantly higher than the state averages, at 53.48% and 52.77%, respectively. Additionally, the school's Science proficiency rate of 64.84% is well above the state average of 49.73%. This consistent academic achievement is particularly impressive given that the school serves a diverse student population, with a relatively high percentage of students from low-income backgrounds.

Spokane International Academy's success can also be attributed to its low student-teacher ratio, which ranges from 14.4 to 17.5 students per teacher. This allows for more individualized attention and support for students. However, the school has faced some budgetary challenges, as evidenced by the fluctuations in its spending per student, which has ranged from $11,417 to $21,970 over the years. Despite these funding changes, Spokane Virtual Academy and other nearby schools in the Spokane School District have not been able to match Spokane International Academy's academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote In my OPINION this is the worst place you want to work for if you are not a teacher. While most administrative people make $50k and up, the bottom feeders make a miserable $1200 a MONTH. I am glad I am in a better place where my worth is valued and make triple the money. Could you support your family on $1200 a month .... in 2021? Don't do this to yourself. They get 1 star because at least SOME of the teachers take pride in what they do. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
