Magruder Elementary

Summary:

Magruder Elementary is a public elementary school in Williamsburg, Virginia, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the York County Public Schools district, which is ranked 5 out of 130 in the state and has a 5-star rating.

Magruder Elementary consistently ranks in the top 30% of Virginia elementary schools, with strong academic performance, particularly in mathematics and reading. The school's African American and Hispanic students outperform their statewide counterparts, ranking in the top 20% and top 25% of Virginia elementary schools, respectively. However, the school's students with disabilities and multi-racial students have struggled, ranking in the bottom 30% and bottom 20% of Virginia elementary schools. Despite having a relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, Magruder's low-income students perform well, ranking in the top 30% of Virginia elementary schools.

Compared to nearby schools in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools district, Magruder Elementary's academic performance is generally stronger, particularly in mathematics and reading. However, some nearby schools, such as Waller Mill Elementary, have even stronger academic performance, ranking in the top 15% of Virginia elementary schools. Magruder's diverse student population is a strength, and the school's performance on SOL tests suggests that it is effectively serving students of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, but the school may need to focus on providing additional support and resources to its students with disabilities and multi-racial students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son has Autism, imo they they didn't abuse him, they also seemed to not agree with me on much and he ended up being homebound for aggression. My son is not naturally aggressive but when people don't understand him he can BE aggressive. He went there 2yrs of preschool and K and started 1st before being homebound. It seemed to me I gave suggestions on deaf ears and when the issue I knew would arise came to light they were shocked. My daughter who was a gifted student went there and had no prob. she is now in Queens lake middle school and doing fine. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
