Rosemont Forest Elementary

Summary:

Rosemont Forest Elementary is a public elementary school in Virginia Beach, Virginia, serving 515 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. As part of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools district, which is ranked 27th out of 130 districts in the state, Rosemont Forest Elementary consistently performs above the district and state averages in academic assessments, particularly in mathematics and reading.

The school's diverse student population, with a racial makeup that is more balanced compared to nearby schools, is a notable strength. Rosemont Forest Elementary ranks highly in the state for both Hispanic and African American student subgroups, and its relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (29.13%) suggests the school may have access to more resources and support. Despite this, the school's strong performance for its low socioeconomic status subgroup indicates it is effectively addressing the needs of its economically disadvantaged students.

While Rosemont Forest Elementary maintains a consistent level of academic excellence, with a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger, some nearby schools, such as New Castle Elementary, consistently outperform it in certain areas, particularly in mathematics and reading. By analyzing the practices and strategies of these higher-performing schools, Rosemont Forest Elementary can continue to enhance its educational outcomes and serve as a model for other schools in the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Love this school, we started here last year after moving back from Hawaii. The new principal that joined the school a month after we got here is fabulous. He listens to the parents and has made so many great changes to the school. The teachers we have had are top notch and so caring. Communication is great. We are a military family and this is our fourth elementary school in 3 different states (CT, VA, HI and VA again). This by far has been the best and i just love how great the communication is with my kids teachers and the new principal Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
