Summary:

Lynnhaven Middle is a public middle school in Virginia Beach, Virginia, serving 886 students in grades 6-8. It is part of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools district, which is ranked 27th out of 130 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating.

Lynnhaven Middle has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools like Great Neck Middle and Landstown Middle, with 45.6% White, 30.36% African American, 12.87% Hispanic, and 2.82% Asian students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by SOL test scores, is generally on par with or slightly below the district and state averages, and there are achievement gaps between different student subgroups, with Hispanic and White students performing better than African American and Disabled students. Additionally, Lynnhaven Middle has a relatively high percentage of students (66.48%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, significantly higher than nearby schools like Old Donation School (12.13%) and Great Neck Middle (29.29%).

Lynnhaven Middle's statewide ranking has declined in recent years, from 98th out of 419 Virginia middle schools in 2020-2021 to 208th out of 417 in 2023-2024, suggesting its performance may be declining relative to other middle schools in the state. The school also has a relatively high per-student spending of $11,593 in the 2020-2021 school year, which is higher than the district and state averages, but this higher spending does not seem to translate into significantly better academic outcomes compared to nearby schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

I think Assistant Vice Principal is originally from Renaissance. For Educators they do not appear to enjoy children too much. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
