Garrisonville Elementary

Summary:

Garrisonville Elementary is a public elementary school in Stafford, Virginia, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Stafford County Public Schools district. The school has a diverse student population and has consistently outperformed the district and state in academic areas, particularly in mathematics and science.

Garrisonville Elementary's academic performance is a key strength, with higher proficiency rates in SOL/Mathematics and SOL/Science compared to nearby schools like Widewater Elementary, Stafford Elementary, and Anne E. Moncure Elementary. The school has also shown strong performance among specific student subgroups, particularly African American and Hispanic students, ranking highly in the state. However, the school's performance for White students and students with disabilities is relatively lower.

Garrisonville Elementary's academic success may be attributed to its relatively low student-teacher ratio, which is generally lower than nearby schools. Additionally, the school has a lower percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients compared to some nearby schools, suggesting a more economically diverse student population. While the school's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, its consistent academic performance and supportive learning environment make it a strong choice for families in the Stafford area.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Garrisonville Elementary is a GREAT school. It is ranked low because Stafford CTY has had an influx of Spanish speaking children and to no one's surprise in a predominantly English speaking county the district is trying to compensate for the issues surrounding that. All of the scores will be skewed lower. Because of the teachers and cirriculum my child reads at a grade level higher than the state average. Close Quote

Open Quote My son attends GES and I cannot wait for his younger siblings to attend the school as well. Every experience at every level that we have had with the teachers, leadership and faculty have been outstanding. A true emphasis is placed on each student and the teachers effectively identify their strengths and weaknesses. I cannot rate this school high enough! Close Quote

Open Quote I cannot understand why this school is low-ranked.
The teachers differentiate instruction. (My kid is below grade in math and gets pull-out for that, while she is above grade in reading and gets appropriate challenging material for that subject.)
There is SO much community and school spirit!
Kids are open-minded and welcoming. (My child is an ethnic minority but does not face bullies or discrimination.)
The grade level teachers work together to give kids common experiences across the grade.
There is not too much homework.

I don't know. Maybe the bad things are:
Too much focus on SOLs.
Only 1 recess per day when most research show kids need more than that. Close Quote

Open Quote I was a student at Garrisonville about 7 years ago until i had to move because my dad was in the military. This school was really great and I miss it. Even though I'm in high school now I still wish I could reverse time and come back to school there :) Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
