Winding Creek Elementary

Summary:

Winding Creek Elementary is a public elementary school in Stafford, Virginia, serving around 840 students in grades K-5. As part of the Stafford County Public Schools district, Winding Creek consistently ranks in the top 30% of Virginia elementary schools and outperforms the district and state averages on standardized tests, particularly for African American and low-socioeconomic status students.

Winding Creek's academic performance is consistently strong, with students scoring significantly higher than their peers in Widewater Elementary, Margaret Brent Elementary, and other nearby schools. For example, in 2023-2024, Winding Creek's 5th-grade students scored 82.76% proficient or better in Math, compared to 62% at Widewater Elementary and 61.43% at Anne E. Moncure Elementary. This strong academic performance is particularly noteworthy for the school's diverse student population, which includes a higher percentage of African American and Hispanic students compared to some of the surrounding schools.

Winding Creek's success may be attributed to its relatively lower percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds compared to nearby schools, as well as its focus on supporting the academic achievement of traditionally underserved student populations. This combination of academic excellence, diversity, and equitable outcomes makes Winding Creek Elementary a standout school within the Stafford County Public Schools district.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Finest of schools. In all my many years of dealing with schools this one stand on top. They are professional, caring, and really care about the children and teachers are the best. They seem to go that extra mile in any and all situations.
All three children that I had in this school went above and beyond for the children . Kids loved their teacher and were enthusiastic to learn. I cannot imagine a better school. It is comforting to know that there are such caring schools in our area. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
