Loudoun County High

Summary:

Loudoun County High is a public high school serving 1,533 students in grades 9-12 in Leesburg, Virginia, part of the highly-ranked Loudoun County Public Schools district. The school has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 58.25% White, 5.61% African American, 23.29% Hispanic, 6.85% Asian, and 5.28% two or more races.

Loudoun County High has consistently ranked in the top half of Virginia high schools over the past 10 years, with strong academic performance on SOL (Standards of Learning) tests, particularly in subjects like English Reading, Biology, and Algebra. The school's Asian and multi-racial students consistently outperform their peers in the state and district on these tests. However, the school's performance for Hispanic, English Language Learner, and low socioeconomic status students is relatively lower, suggesting a need for targeted interventions. Loudoun County High is well-resourced, with a low student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending compared to the district and state averages.

When comparing Loudoun County High to nearby schools in the district, there are notable differences. Some schools, like Briar Woods High and Independence High, have higher academic rankings and performance, particularly in subjects like Algebra, Geometry, and Chemistry. Other schools, such as Park View High and W.O. Robey High, struggle with lower academic performance. These variations in academic achievement and resource allocation across the district suggest the need for a more comprehensive and equitable approach to education within the Loudoun County Public Schools system.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is a great school, my children have both been very happy here. As with any school there will be those few teachers that are not great, those few students that are not nice....but that is not the norm here. Both my sons feel the school is very well rounded, students are tolerant and nice, great school spirit, good sports, teachers care, and front office is friendly and approachable. We have only run into a couple of problems with teachers and the counselors have worked with us and our kids. Teachers are there before school and during Raider Rally for extra help. Strings program is not the best, I hope it continues to grow. Marching band is very good and that is where the band director focuses much of his effort. My kids were not in Drama, but I have heard nothing but great things about it. Football does well, it is in a transition faze right now after loosing so many seniors two years ago. Boys soccer, boys LX, Cross Country, Wrestling, girls basketball, girls volleyball, and several others have gone to states as a team or individual and we have won several. There will be some changes this year as we are getting a new principal and that in not a bad thing....there are a few areas that could use some improvement. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
