As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We have had 3 different children in Gayton. The teachers are fantastic! They recently got a new principal and overall she is making some good changes to the school. The PTA does a great job with supplying the school with technology and is now working on play ground updates. The gifted program has been excellent for 2 of my children. One negative is that they do not have teachers in place if you are special needs. There are other elementary schools close by that do. We have enjoyed Gayton and would recommend it. Close Quote

Open Quote Decent teachers, but a horrible principal and administration.

If you have a gifted child, look elsewhere. Heck, if you have a child that is anything other that absolutely average, this is not the place for you. The principal is unhelpful and unresponsive to the point that we had to bring in Henrico county officials to get our child the IEP he needed.

We were fought every step of the way, from the day we enrolled -- Principal Wingfield and her staff refused to provide the resources our son needed, and thus we essentially wasted a year while he complained about boredom and frustration... and, as we told Mrs. Wingfield, began to act out.

Gifted kids? Don't expect much in the way of decent education. Kids anywhere on the autism spectrum? Ditto. Kids with special needs? Forget it.

We've since moved to Pemberton, and it's night and day. Responsive staff, terrific principal who listens to us, great teachers. It's a shame we didn't know about it sooner. Until Peggy Wingfield and her administration is out of there, Gayton is a school to avoid. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
