Summary:

Providence Elementary is a public elementary school located in Fairfax, Virginia, serving grades PK-6 with a student population of 869. The school is part of the Fairfax County Public Schools district, which is ranked 41 out of 130 school districts in Virginia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Providence Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a racial makeup of 33.6% White, 37.28% Hispanic, 14.96% Asian, and 5.75% African American. However, the school's academic performance is mixed, with strong 3rd grade mathematics results but lower proficiency in other grades and subjects compared to district and state averages. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, with White and multi-racial students performing well but Hispanic, English Language Learner, and low socioeconomic status students struggling. Despite having a relatively high per-student spending of $12,475, Providence Elementary's statewide ranking has declined in recent years, from 376 out of 1,110 Virginia elementary schools in 2013-2014 to 634 out of 1,114 in 2023-2024.

When compared to nearby schools like Flint Hill Elementary, Oak View Elementary, and Waples Mill Elementary, Providence Elementary generally performs worse academically, with lower proficiency rates in mathematics and reading across most grade levels. The school's diverse student population and higher spending per student suggest that targeted interventions and support may be needed to address the unique needs of its student body and improve academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Never had an issue with any teach or admin, they spotted my childs reading issue in K and not only fixed it but now he excels, they constantly work with parents to make the school experience better for the kids, I will only say that many PARENTS have been disappointing with their lack of participation in their children's life and I have seen many more than I should pass their kids over to the school to be raised, they take NO part in anything EVER, then blame the school when something is wrong. This particular school has a great mix of students and frankly I think the rating put on this page is OFF by a long shot. I work full time and some parents complaining may use the fact that they work for NOT participating but the truth is if you have time to leave work for parties then you have it for school stuff too. And just because the school approaches you saying your kid needs extra help, it's NOT to insult your child, it's to help! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
