Shrevewood Elementary

Summary:

Shrevewood Elementary is a public elementary school in Falls Church, Virginia, serving 664 students in grades PK-6 and part of the Fairfax County Public Schools district. While the school has a relatively diverse student population, its academic performance has been mixed, with test scores and statewide rankings generally lower than nearby high-performing schools like Haycock Elementary and Stenwood Elementary.

Shrevewood Elementary's strengths include a low student-teacher ratio and relatively high spending per student compared to some nearby schools. However, the school's performance on state assessments varies significantly across different student subgroups, with Asian and White students generally outperforming Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) students. Additionally, Shrevewood has a lower percentage of students eligible for free and reduced-price lunch (27.56%) compared to schools like Graham Road Elementary (86.65%) and Pine Spring Elementary (62.94%), suggesting it serves a more economically advantaged population.

To improve its overall performance, Shrevewood Elementary may need to closely examine its instructional practices, resource allocation, and support systems for struggling students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. By addressing the achievement gaps across different student subgroups and aligning its practices with those of the highest-performing schools in the area, Shrevewood can work to provide a more rigorous and effective educational experience for all of its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school went through a two year period of high teacher turnover before the former principal retired - during that time, a lot of new families were unhappy. However, our kids have been going here for the long haul, and we are grateful for the strong PTA community and the dedicated teachers who have stuck it out for many years. The administration and teachers celebrate the diversity of the community the PTA raises a ton of money to support programs. The Before/After School program is exceptional. We would 100 choose to have our kids go here again. Close Quote

Open Quote Less teaching and more tests . No proper guidance or feedback about the student . The curriculum is too vague and lacks focus . They may have a few experienced teachers but most of them seem to be over burdened by the class strength. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
