Crestwood Elementary

Summary:

Crestwood Elementary is a public elementary school in Richmond, Virginia, serving 580 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Chesterfield County Public Schools district, which is ranked 82 out of 130 districts in the state.

Crestwood Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with a racial breakdown of 38.45% White, 21.21% African American, 31.03% Hispanic, 2.24% Asian, and 6.72% two or more races. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by SOL (Standards of Learning) test scores, is generally lower than the district and state averages. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 46.03% of 5th-grade students were proficient or better in SOL Mathematics, compared to 53.58% for the district and 67.98% for the state. Crestwood Elementary's statewide ranking has fluctuated over the years, ranging from 419 out of 1099 Virginia elementary schools in 2016-2017 to 811 out of 1114 in 2022-2023, placing it in the bottom half of Virginia elementary schools.

Crestwood Elementary also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, at 81.38% in the 2022-2023 school year, significantly higher than the nearby schools like J.B. Fisher Elementary, G.H. Reid Elementary, and Greenfield Elementary. The school's diverse student population and high percentage of low-income students may contribute to the academic challenges it faces, and further analysis and targeted interventions may be necessary to improve the educational outcomes for the students at Crestwood Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote One of the nest hidden gems on the area! The PTA has consistently won awards for their service. Parents of ALL children are involved in their children’s education. Teachers are hard-working and dedicated to the best instruction for students. Everyone advocates for all children, and the student body and staff are diverse. Parents here realize that it takes a village to raise successful children. Responsibility does solely rely on the teachers and administrators. Focus is on the “whole” child, not just test scores. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
