Silver Crest School

Summary:

Silver Crest School is a public elementary school in Herriman, Utah, serving 902 students in grades K-6 and part of the Jordan School District. While the school has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, its academic performance, as measured by RISE test scores, is generally lower than the district and state averages across various grade levels and subjects.

Silver Crest School has a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (20.07%) compared to nearby schools, which may contribute to its lower academic performance. Additionally, the school's spending per student ($6,515) is lower than the nearby schools, ranging from $6,012 to $7,700 per student. Interestingly, Herriman School, located less than a mile from Silver Crest, consistently outperforms the school and the district/state averages in academic proficiency, suggesting that factors beyond just the school's demographics may play a significant role in academic outcomes.

Despite the challenges, Silver Crest School has shown some positive trends, such as its diverse student population and the academic performance of its Hispanic student subgroup, which ranked 16 out of 49 Utah elementary schools in 2023-2024. By addressing the factors contributing to the school's lower performance, such as through targeted interventions, increased funding, and learning from the successful practices of higher-performing nearby schools, Silver Crest School could potentially improve its overall academic outcomes and provide a better educational experience for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The principal is the best. She will listen to the parents, the teachers, and really focus on the students. She has the students best interests always in mind. Many great teachers, and wonderful staff. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is a nightmare. Starting with the principal, an entitled tyrant who encourages bullying, intimidation and acts like a territorial thug. Her patronizing passive-aggressive and condescending approach seems to have influenced everyone working there. Save by a couple of teachers, everyone subjects to her out of fear... Such a pity.
You hear about places like these... but having your child subject to such horrible conditions makes you lose faith in the school system altogether. Best decision in my life was pulling my child out of there. STAY AWAY! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
