Quest Academy

Summary:

Quest Academy is a public charter school located in West Haven, Utah, serving 1,019 students in grades K-9. The school stands out for its consistently high academic performance, with proficiency rates exceeding the state average across multiple subjects and grade levels.

One key strength of Quest Academy is its academic excellence. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts ranged from 52.8% to 61.7% across grades 3-8, compared to the state average of 42.4% to 48.3%. In mathematics, Quest Academy's proficiency rates were 39% to 65.6%, while the state average was 35.6% to 49.1%. The school also outperforms the state in science proficiency. Additionally, Quest Academy has a relatively low student-teacher ratio of 22.4 students per teacher, compared to nearby charter schools ranging from 17.2 to 19.6 students per teacher.

Another notable aspect of Quest Academy is its cost-effective approach. At $5,870 per student in the 2018-2019 school year, the school's spending is lower than the nearby charter schools, which range from $6,749 to $8,304 per student. This suggests that Quest Academy is able to achieve strong academic outcomes in a more efficient manner than some of its neighboring counterparts.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Quest Academy is the very best choice I could have made for my children educationally. The curriculum is individualized, and students are not held back progress wise. I know that my child, who is now in high school, would not be doing as well as he is, if we had kept him in the school we were attending previously. The campus is beautiful. There are two buildings, one for k-4, and one for 5-9. The buildings are spotless, and lend to the overall learning environment. The teachers, administration, and staff care about my children. They are easy to contact, and share concerns with. Students are not grouped with students in other grades. There are accelerated programs, as well as programs to help students that need additional help. The technology available is impressive. I love that my child does work on PC and MAC computers. My keyboarding skills and overall expertise with computers pales in comparison to that of my children. In this technology driven society we live in, I feel this will only put my child ahead of other students who do not have similar opportunities. Close Quote

Open Quote If I could give Quest zero stars I would. The curriculum is terrible, the administration is even worse. At the beginning of the year they test the kids school wide. The kids are then placed in "groups" according to where they tested. My second graders reading group had kids k-5th grade. My 3rd grader tested 4th grade for math, so he was placed in a 4th grade math group. Then he started 4th grade and tested 3rd grade for math so as a 4th grader was placed in 3rd grade math. That proved to me the system was a failure. When I questioned this system, I was told they are following the public school guidelines. I don't believe they are following the guidelines by placing 5th graders in reading groups with kindergartners. The school is terribly over crowded because they continue to add grades every year. Quest has a building intended to house k-6 but is now being used for k-8 with plans to add 9th next year. In order to do this they have added a bunch of portable classrooms. They have dedicated an entire computer lab to "jr. high". The jr. high does not run like a jr. high, they have cubbies like pre-schoolers, located by the front office. If the jr. high kids leave anything in their cubby at the end of the day the school throws it away. The PTA runs at least one fund raiser a month, which they will exclude children from activities if they don't sell the junk. The parking lot is the most dangerous place I have ever been. There are very few adults outside at pickup time and kids are running everywhere. Siblings are not together kids are supposed to be separated by grade making parents make several stops to pick up. The administration is defensive and unwilling to listen to suggestions. My kids were there 1 year and 1 quarter, moving them was the best decision I have made. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
