Summary:

Raye-Allen Elementary is a public elementary school in Temple, Texas, serving 567 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Temple Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 733 out of 968 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Raye-Allen Elementary faces significant academic challenges, consistently ranking in the bottom half of Texas elementary schools over the past several years. The school's performance on STAAR tests is generally below the state and district averages, particularly in mathematics and science. For example, in 2023-2024, only 15.31% of 5th-grade students at Raye-Allen were proficient or better in STAAR Science, compared to 19.37% for the Temple ISD and 26.29% for the state. The school's high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, at 73.02%, likely contributes to these academic struggles.

When compared to other schools, Raye-Allen Elementary generally performs worse than its peers within the Temple ISD, such as Kennedy-Powell Elementary and Scott Elementary, which have higher academic performance and rankings. Outside the district, Raye-Allen also lags behind schools like Miller Heights Elementary in the Belton ISD and Academy Elementary in the Academy ISD, which have significantly higher proficiency rates on STAAR tests.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I don't think these kids are learning half of what they need to learn. My step daughter goes to Raye-Allen, 4th grade and she doesn't even know how to multiply. My daughter who is in 3rd grade at another school knows multiplication and is working on division. I have been to eat lunch with my stepdaughter once and that school was just out of control compared to the school my kids go to. I think a lot of the teachers are there just for a check, not for the kids. Its a shame that we can not get some teachers in schools that really want to teach these kids. They are our future. Its very upsetting as a parent.I have been comparing the school rankings from all the schools here in Bell County and Raye-Allen is one of the schools at the bottom of the list. Its ridiculous. Very sad that these kids are not getting the education they need or the education as some of the other kids in the district. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
