Open Quote They do have their very own police department on campus as well as thier own daycare but as for fights, it's not as bad as i have heard the other schools are. There are some occasional fights but they tend to stick to their own little groups. I have heard Harlingen High School is much worse, and that is where I went to school and always thought my kids would go to but now I am so glad they don't. Close Quote

Open Quote The school board trustees are more interested in how many relatives can be hired by the school district than student scores. One school board trustee boast about having 12 brothers, sisters, and other relatives working for the district. Every school trustee has one or several relatives working for the district. They praise the superintendent because he does the hiring for them. They kept on giving raises even though the students scores are terrible. It is a big school district with emphasis on expanding the budget and increasing employees to get more votes in school elections. The community is brainwashed. This community is a perfect example of "You get what you deserve" dummies out of high school. Dummies work and get hired by the district!!! As long as they vote for the current administration they have a job. The education of the students is a second distant after thought. There is no shame because they don't really mean to be that bad. It just comes naturally. Can they change things? Yes. They just need to get a conscience. But getting a conscience is difficult. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
