Cody Elementary

Summary:

Cody Elementary is a public elementary school in San Antonio, Texas, serving 536 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Northside Independent School District, which is ranked 496 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cody Elementary faces significant academic challenges, consistently ranking in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools over the past 7 years. The school's performance on STAAR tests is significantly below the district and state averages, particularly for Hispanic, male, and special education students. However, the school appears to be providing relatively stronger support for its gifted and talented and English Language Learner (ELL) students, suggesting it may have effective targeted programs in place.

Compared to nearby Hatchett Elementary, Adams Hill Elementary, Michael Elementary, and other Northside ISD schools, Cody Elementary generally performs worse on academic measures, likely due to its higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students. To improve overall performance, Cody Elementary could benefit from examining its instructional practices, resource allocation, and support services for its general student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son transferred to Cody Elementary School for first grade since we relocated due to military move. My son has excelled in both reading and Math since he moved here. The Special Education class for children with autism is excellent; the Special Ed Teacher was awarded Teacher of the Year. His class has 7 students and my son is integrated in other classes for core curriculum (English, Science, Math, Social Studies) and gets one-on-one attention for Speech Therapy and PE with the Special Ed Teachers. He loves going to this school and we decided to keep him at Cody for the rest of the school year as it isn't as big as the newer schools in NISD even though it's a bit farther from our home. My son is also reading and spelling just like the kids in the regular classes and gets plenty of support from all his teachers. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
