D P Morris Elementary

Summary:

D P Morris Elementary is a public elementary school in Arlington, Texas, serving students from kindergarten to 4th grade as part of the Mansfield Independent School District. The school has a diverse student population, with a majority of Hispanic students and a significant percentage of African American and low-income students.

Academically, D P Morris Elementary has consistently ranked in the lower half of Texas elementary schools, with performance on state assessments generally below the district and state averages, particularly in mathematics. The school's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with Asian students and students with low socioeconomic status or limited English proficiency performing significantly worse than their peers. Nearby schools within the Mansfield ISD, such as Janet Brockett Elementary and J L Boren Elementary, generally outperform D P Morris Elementary on academic measures.

The high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at D P Morris Elementary, which is significantly higher than the district and state averages, may be a contributing factor to the school's lower academic performance. Additionally, the school's higher spending per student compared to the state average suggests a need to evaluate the effectiveness of resource allocation and identify areas for improvement. Addressing the specific needs of underperforming student groups and improving overall academic outcomes at D P Morris Elementary will be crucial for the school's future success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Lack of communication skills among teacher and administrative staff. Have called to let teacher know about a change in way will pick up child and somehow, message was never recieved, more than one occasion. Also, had an administrative staff reply rudely when called once. Also, asked for tutoring help for my son and was told very frankly that it was not offered. Will be so happy when my second child is finished with this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
