Friendship Elementary

Summary:

Friendship Elementary is a public elementary school in Keller, Texas, serving grades PK-4 with a total enrollment of 533 students. The school is part of the Keller Independent School District, which is ranked 212 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Friendship Elementary has consistently underperformed compared to the Keller ISD and Texas state averages on STAAR tests, with only 30% of 3rd graders proficient in reading and 26% proficient in math. The school has a more diverse student population, with higher percentages of African American (25.52%) and Hispanic (21.2%) students, as well as a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students (58.35%) compared to nearby schools like Eagle Ridge Elementary, Whitley Road Elementary, and Bette Perot Elementary. This suggests that the school may be struggling to effectively support its diverse student population and address the needs of its economically disadvantaged students.

Friendship Elementary's statewide ranking has declined over the years, dropping from 993 out of 4,359 Texas elementary schools in 2017-2018 to 3,749 out of 4,647 in 2022-2023, with a corresponding decrease in its SchoolDigger star rating from 4 to 1. This concerning trend warrants further investigation, as the school's academic performance and educational quality appear to be declining relative to its peers within the Keller Independent School District.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Between our two children, we are entering into our sixth year with this wonderful school. We have found it to be an organized, caring and encouraging environment for our children. The teachers have all been attentive and open with both parents and students. They were able to recognize certain characteristics of my child's learning abilities and immediately sought intervention. This has not only had a profound impact on my child's all around education, but also on their confidence in their ability to learn the subjects that were once challenging. I attribute this to the professional and caring staff who clearly want all students succeed and enjoy learning. The Principal during the first five years, Mr. Rische, was such a great leader of this school. He was always a visible presence on campus and, from the staff interactions I saw, was well respected. 2016-2017 school year will begin with a new Principal and several new staff members (front desk, counselor) but I am positive this school will continue to thrive. Open Quote This school is the classic case of the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Communication among teachers, administration and communication to the parents definitely needs to be improved. I have also seen a teacher yelling at her students and another teacher be condescending towards her students. If you are looking for a home in the friendship elementary zone I would definitely look elsewhere. If you want your child to receive a good education in a good environment then this is not the place for you. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
