Farine Elementary

Summary:

Farine Elementary is a public elementary school located in Irving, Texas, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 879. The school is part of the Irving Independent School District, which is ranked 822 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Farine Elementary faces several challenges, including a significantly higher percentage of Hispanic students (62.23%) compared to the surrounding schools, which range from 43.02% to 94.54% Hispanic students. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Texas elementary schools, with a ranking between 2,694 and 3,703 out of around 4,600 schools over the past 10 years, and its SchoolDigger rating has also been low, ranging from 1 to 3 stars out of 5. Additionally, the school's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with African American and White students generally performing better than Hispanic and English Language Learner students.

Farine Elementary's test scores, particularly in reading and mathematics, are consistently lower than the district and state averages, which is a key area of concern. When comparing Farine Elementary to the nearby schools in the same district, such as Gilbert F.M. Elementary and Brandenburg Elementary, it becomes evident that Farine is one of the lower-performing schools in the area. Additionally, Farine Elementary has a very high percentage of students (over 79%) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population, which likely contributes to the school's lower academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school should be ranked at the top of school rankings! It is an excellent school! I have four children and all four went to great schools out-of-state before moving here. I was concerned about this school when I drove up because of the old building and surrounding neighborhood, and even arranged for my children to attend a school in another district for a year to avoid this school. That is now a big regret because Farine is a hidden gem! The teachers are above average. The staff is excellent, and their Title 1 status actually gives them more resources than most schools. Mr. Bird should win teacher of the year. He awoke the desire to learn within my youngest child and she has excelled ever since. We cannot say enough good about this school and its teachers! They also have excellent extracurricular and after-school programs. Close Quote

Open Quote Hi,
This is a nice school with very good teachers. My daughter joined this school when she was in 3rd grade and as we are new to US,she needed extra help in most of the subjects. I really appreciate the way teachers helped her and even before the end of 3rd year she was off the Tutorials and even got an award for academic performance. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
