Midway Park Elementary

Summary:

Midway Park Elementary is a public elementary school in Euless, Texas, serving 627 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 172 out of 968 school districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating.

Midway Park Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with significant representation of African American (29.67%), Hispanic (20.57%), and Asian (13.88%) students. However, the school has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 75.19% to 81.66% over the past three years, which is significantly higher than nearby schools. The school's student performance on STAAR tests has been mixed, with strengths in 5th grade reading and 6th grade mathematics, but struggles in 3rd and 4th grade reading and mathematics. Notably, the school has performed well for African American and Hispanic students, ranking in the top quartile of Texas elementary schools in several years, but has struggled with Asian and White student performance.

Midway Park Elementary's statewide ranking has fluctuated, declining from a high of 1114 out of 4329 Texas elementary schools in 2016-2017 to a low of 2508 out of 4578 in 2020-2021. This decline is concerning and warrants further investigation. However, the school has shown exceptional performance in its Gifted and Talented program, ranking 14th out of 2,980 Texas elementary schools in 2022-2023. When compared to nearby schools in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, such as Meadow Creek Elementary and Wilshire Elementary, Midway Park Elementary generally performs below the district and state averages on STAAR tests, particularly in mathematics.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I wouldn't even give this school 1 star if it didn't make me. This is the most PATHETIC staff I have ever witness. They found bedbugs in a Kindergarten classroom... On the floor... By the children's backpacks... THREE WEEKS AGO!!! And did NOT mention anything about it UNTIL one of the students continuously got bitten up. Then, they lied about knowing about it! Absolutely absurd!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
