Elm Grove Elementary

Summary:

Elm Grove Elementary is a public elementary school located in Kingwood, Texas, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 619. The school is part of the Humble Independent School District, which is ranked 476 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Elm Grove Elementary's academic performance has been a mixed bag, with STAAR test scores in reading, math, and science generally lower than the district and state averages. The school's 3rd grade reading proficiency rate was 40.21%, compared to 47.34% for the district and 48.85% for the state, while the 5th grade reading proficiency rate was higher at 59.79%, but still below the district and state. In math, the school's proficiency rates were also lower than the district and state, and its 5th grade science proficiency rate was only 19.39%, significantly lower than the district and state. The school's performance varies across different student subgroups, ranking higher for female students and Hispanic students compared to other Texas elementary schools, but lower for African American, White, and multi-racial students, as well as for special education and gifted and talented students.

Elm Grove Elementary's academic performance is generally lower than the nearby Bear Branch Elementary, Greentree Elementary, and Willow Creek Elementary, which have higher STAAR proficiency rates and higher statewide rankings. However, the school performs better than some schools in the neighboring New Caney Independent School District, such as Porter Elementary and Kings Manor Elementary, which have lower STAAR scores and lower statewide rankings. The school's changing student demographics, with a decrease in the percentage of White students and an increase in the percentage of African American and Hispanic students, may be contributing to the school's academic performance challenges.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Could not ask for a better school! I have had kids here since 2010 and loved every second of it. Had an issue with one teacher but it was resolved quickly. Principal always very kind to everyone and involved in the day to day happenings at the school! Close Quote

Open Quote The Principal is the main problem. The word Micro Manager is often used to describe her. She is known around the district for being hard to get along with and is down right mean to students and staff. She will smile at you the first time she meets you and can be presentable when she chooses. She can also be your worst enemy that will go out of her way to make your life miserable.

The school is completely inefficient due to poor management and planning is filled with theory and very little in the way of real solutions. Every single one of the staff is miserable due to mistreatment and mismanagement. The Principal thinks she is smarter than everyone, including you, if you're reading this. As a result she is incapable of making sound decisions.

The day the principal retires or is forced out, will be a day to be celebrated by all.

You have been warned. Close Quote

Open Quote many things are wrong with this school currently speaking of course, many teachers have been bullied by the principal, yes bullied ! this school has been known to have many children hurt on the playground equipment, nothing was done about it for years. the bullying at this school, the principal is supposed to turn in a report to the HISD school board, and unless you force her to do it and see it with your own eyes, and make sure its been done, she will hide it. The school gets priveledges and bonuses for having no bullying in the school, of course there is incentive to have the principal NOT report these issues.
last year we had a parent helping out on field day/aka super fun day, had been hit with fists by a 4th grade boy, whom also beat the heck out of the p.e teacher.
nothing was done about this either.
take your child else where!!! RUN Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
