Timberline Elementary

Summary:

Timberline Elementary is a public elementary school in Grapevine, Texas, serving 592 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 118 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating.

While Timberline Elementary has a significantly higher percentage of Hispanic students (70.44%) compared to the surrounding schools, it consistently underperforms the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and the state of Texas in STAAR test scores across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's 3rd grade reading proficiency rate was 35.96%, compared to 64.6% for the district and 48.85% for the state. Timberline's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with the school struggling with its Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Economically Disadvantaged populations.

Timberline Elementary's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past decade, from a high of 1,483 out of 4,320 Texas elementary schools in 2014-2015 to a low of 3,631 out of 4,675 in 2023-2024. This suggests the school is struggling to keep pace with the academic performance of other elementary schools in the state, including nearby schools like Dove Elementary, Heritage Elementary, and Glenhope Elementary, which consistently outperform Timberline on STAAR assessments and have higher statewide rankings.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My granddaughter who lives with me attends Timberline Elem. she is in the 2nd grade now. While she struggles with reading (most of my family has dyslexia) the school has worked with her to help her and now she is being tested in 2nd grade. She loves the school and they do all they can to focus on the positive things that she can do which I believe is the way you should teach. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
